Hello, I would like to get a road bike/tri bike to commute to and from work, and also compete in some tri races/bike races. Any ideas...

Thanks.

Richard.

They will have infinitely more knowledge & opinions for you to make the right decision...especially if you're spending 1k!

I'm not sure that is a good read - unless you're spending more than £5767494965237583057235275093365093759736453790.56 they tell you you're only rinding a mediocre entry level bike.

Disagree with the above, ask the same question in their forums, plenty of help on there and some good advice should come your way.

Boardman carbon pro is a good bike and value for money.

Perhaps I just tar all cycling enthusiasts with the same brush. I remember when someone in work asked a similar question and a couple of cycling addicts recommended bikes costing over £3000!!! They said this would only be an entry level bike but it could be upgraded with about £1500 worth of parts to get it up to scratch.

Both people giving the advice frequent the site that was recommended earlier.
  • Bikeradar's okay, ask in the commuting boards they seem a little more rooted in reality than the road section. Check the 'commuting bike pics' and 'bargains you've spotted' threads to see what others are getting for their money.
    Out on blue six..

    I also coach triathlon

£1K will get you a mighty fine bike.

I would suggest a quality bike shop will get you sorted out properly. Boardman bikes are excellent however shop support (setup etc) can be a bit hit and miss of course you might be ok yourself with this. Focus bikes from wiggle are similar good bikes but with low support.

When you start to spend money like this its important you get support from an expert

Try to get the best spec you can (many shops will offer discount on last years models last years £1500 bike should be available for £1k).

Don't forget clothing and ensure a really good bike fit, pedals will be extra.

+1 to that suggestion, they are very good bikes.
As someone who has raced in the past, I see plenty of bikes around now, for around the £1K mark, which will be great for any number of applications, right through to club racing.
Do not rule out a second hand bike, if you have any knowledge of bikes, because they can be great buys.
