    i would definately suggest using the library for a while for the books, see how she gets on then if she finds theres a book which she would prefer to buy have a hunt about - often noticeboards around the uni have adverts for selling books

    i spent a fortune on books for uni (just finishing third year now) and a lot of them i only read a few pages or the odd chapter relating to an essay as they really prefer you to reference journals!

    even lecturers have said not to buy all the books (just the odd key one). they often have to make a book list because of the links the universities have with publishers
