ebay newbie

Hi

I just listed my first items on ebay. It was nearly a disaster and I was an inch away from giving up on ebay altogether! I meant to borrow the firm's digital camera over the weekend, but forgot, so just left myself this evening to photo the items and list them.

Bad moment 1 - couldn't get the camera to work even with help of resident teenager (aren't teenagers supposed to be able to instantly work ALL technology??)
Save 1 - changed the batteries in the camera

Bad moment 2 - all the pictures were blue
Save 2 - resident teenager figured out how to work the flash :T (bow down) colours now how they should be

Bad moment(s) 3 - ebay kept losing my photos!!! I uploaded the same 3 photos 4 times. I finally logged out and back in again (no, I wasn't logging off in a tantrum, it was a reasoned, deliberate log out ;) )
Save 3 - eventually, ebay managed to load the photos onto my listing and everything was fine from then on

What a hassle!! Still, I have three items listed now :D I was thrilled to find that 4 people had viewed my first item before I'd finished listing the third one :D

  • Best of luck and hope you make a bit of money - it gets pretty addictive watching your auctions, though!

It can take a few minutes for photos to display correctly on ebay so you may not have needed to reload if your pics showed as grey photo frame shapes at first.
  • Thanks grownup1

The pics weren't greyed out or anything - they just disappeared and the gallery kept showing 'first one free'.

It is addictive, isn't it :D I keep wanting to have a look how many people have viewed the items

  • :T Well done on losing your e bay virginity.

Hope your items sell and you make some money.

Like grownup1 says, it can get very addictive hoping your items turn from red to green. And don't worry too much if they don't get bids during the week, it tends to go a bit bonkers in the last 10mins of the auction.

Especially today as e bay's system was running a bit slow cos of it being 10p listing day. It took 2 hours for a message to come from a potential buyer, by which time the auction had finished:wall:

It gets easier and good luck :)

It'll seem worth the hassle when you sell your stuff, then what's the betting you do it again!!!;)

  • EBay usually acts up on cheap listing days. You'll be glad to know it's not normally as bad as that! Good luck with your listings. You might find yourself obsessively checking your listings every few minutes to see if anyone's bid or asked a question, or if the number of watchers has changed - I did that a lot when I started selling. I'm only slightly better now...

Yep totally agree it is so exciting to see how you go but can also be disappointing if your item does not do well. I love it when I have lots of watchers but then at the end when no one bids it is a bit sad. My advice to any newbie is do not set the starting price to high it cost less in fees and you might get more bidders. If you set it high it may not sell. I have found people bid on things that already have bids on them it does seem a bit strange to me.

Anyway off to see how my things are doing - good luck with yours.

  • It is completely addictive! Amazing. I'll be gutted if no one buys anything :)

  • Hiya,
I'm a newbie to selling stuff on e-Bay too. Its quite scary, but having 100 pairs of shoes is making my house rather cluttered!

    :)
