Hi
Apologies if this has been covered, I did do a search but couldn't find the answer to my question.

I have had a letter from Tesco Personal Finance who want to change my Tesco Finest Visa card to a Mastercard.

There is 'phone number I can ring if I don't want it changed.

What are the advantages/ disadvantages?

According to Martin's article it appears you get more protection with a Visa (due to chargeback?), but I can't see any more information about this.

I presume section 75 applies to both Visa and Mastercard?

Thanks
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

I'm sure both Mastercard and Visa run a chargeback scheme on debit cards, and on credit cards where section 75 doesn't apply (eg, purchases under £100) but it's not enshrined by law.

Section 75 applies to both Visa and Mastercard.

There's no difference between them from a user perspective that I know of. I personally have one of each to cover myself on the odd time that one system has gone down, but that's so rare.

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".
  • I have also received this material from Tesco and except for annual gift of 650 points am not sure of the advantage.
Also I do not like my agreement to this being presumed - the new card will be sent unless I opt out
  • Unfortunately I missed the insert in my Visa bill a few months ago that said this would be happening (unless I opted out). Now it is too late to opt out. I was just on the phone with Customer Services. I do not want a Mastercard and I do not wish to change my credit card number 16 months before it is due to expire! But I have no option.

Very BAD customer service on the part of Tesco Credit Card in my opinion.

Most places take both cards but some don't - eg if you want to apply for Olympic tickets you have to pay by Visa they will not accept Mastercard.

This is what happens when people dont read the inserts in there statements etc.

I dont see why Tesco should take the blame for you not reading the material made available to you.
