Not sarcastic, just asking a question.

I work in IT and the first question I always as anyone requesting expensive equiment is WHY?

More often than not, when questioned, their reasons vanish.

Again, just asking a question but didn't you know you needed this expensive gadget when you started your course? can you share or borrow?

    Good luck anyway.

Sorry, just a little stressed today. When i first started the course we was using a Windows/Mac based software called 'Propellerheads Reason' This was great as i could take work home and finish it.. i knew that the following year we'd be using Logic.. but didn't realise how much work and pressure there would be to get it done.
    thanks for the help

I know as a music student you are going to make heavy mac use, so appreciate a PC isn't really going to help. You could look at a credit union for a loan, but you would probably need to save with them for a few months first. Look for your nearest one and see what they say. Also, go to the bank you do your student banking with and see if they can offer you a credit card, but please make sure you can fund the cost. Could you increase your student overdraft by £600 to enable you to buy a second hand mac instead of a new one by credit card?

    Good luck with your course.

Yeah it's all pretty much Mac based, i wish i had money saved before hand. I'll have a look into the credit union as soon as. I'll take a look at the options i have w/ student banking too, i've never really took advantage of these options.
    thank you for your help

So you really need and want this, but can't be bothered to put the required effort into saving?
Sorry, but if I was your bank or relative I woudln't be interested in lending money to you either.
You don't seem to be willing to put any effort into something that you claim is important to you.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but you need to be aware of how this appears to potential lenders.
Best of luck with getting the Mac and with your course.

It is MASSIVELY better to save up for things.
Not only do you save the costs of interest and charges, but you also don't get into a muddle if your income drops or your outgoings increase.
I am saying all this for your own good.
If you get into bad habits now it will affect you for the rest of your life.

    <soapbox mode>

I've saved up for things all my life and started work when I was 13.
I've been a student too and worked in all my holidays.
I'll be mortgage free soon (at age 43) and I've acheived that mainly because I've always lived within my means (whatever they are) and have never been paying for yesterday.

    <soapbox mode off>

it's not that i 'can't be bothered'... if you was in the situation i was in you'd understand..

ok, but I don't understand it right now.
I don't see how you can say you can definitely pay it off, but you can't save the same amount.
You either have the money or you don't.
The computer is either more important than the other things you are spending it on instead or it isn't.
It looks fairly black and white to me unless there are things you aren't telling us (in which case you can't expect us to understand).

Lisyloo is right - if you have the money to pay back a card / loan each month, then you have that money to put in a bank account and save each month until you have enough. It is that simple.

You say you're not very good at saving - why is that? What is it you find hard? If it's the temptation to spend, then set up an account you can't easily access - one that isn't linked to a debit card so you need notice to get the money out. That cuts out the impulse spending. You just need to be disciplined about it.

Ah yes, this is the nub of it.
I have about £600 going into my pension every month.
    I honestly don't notice it.
Some people might find that hard to understand, how you can not notice £600 but the truth is that it comes straight out of my salary before I receive the money and I've been paying for 20 years so I've never actually had the money.
I can certainly tell you that the effect of doing that over 20 years will make a MASSIVE difference to your life.

I do actually know people who put off starting the pension and said "I'll do it later".
    They never did it.
They spent the money on something else.
Do you know what that's cost them??
    About £150K plus growth.

Please don't think we are being harsh.
I am really honestly trying to help you.
The approach you take can have a MASSIVE effect on your future and now is potentially a real turning point for your future wealth.

    Best of luck whatever happens.

Seriously look into getting a basic machine and Ubuntu, I'm sure there are tons of brilliant music software out there for it? if its availiable for MAC or Windoze then I bet there is a comparable if not better one on the Ubuntu software centre.

Its free, its good and there is tons of support for it on the net. you can try it from CD without losing your windoze/mac system and I tried it one and now run a server, 4 PC's, 2 laptops, and 2 netbooks on it in our house and I am not a computer whiz. I can't sing its praises enough for breathing new life into old machines.
