Will EDF prices stay the same?

I am thinking of moving from British Gas to EDF. Currently for me things are cheaper. Martin said that all the prices have gone up and EDF being the last to go up on March the 2nd.

If I signed up with EDF now would they 'fix' there price for a year or so and if paying a percentage more for this privelage would it work out cheaper in the long run ?

I have never been with EDF before I would do a duel fuel for gas and electricity.

Thanks.

  • Billman,

Just had this dilema myself. From comments on this forum it looks like prices may drop later in the year.

You have to decide, like me, if you want to wait or fix. On a personal note I have fixed with Atlantic at 6% more than I was paying last year but this is better than the 14% increase from EON.

If you can get an unfixed deal that is less than you are paying now then it may be the deal for you. I only fixed so that i know that my payments won't change this year. As for EDF fixing, the comparrison site should say if it's a fixed deal or not, from what you have said I doubt it. If they are the last to increase their prices in March they will probably be the last to reduce them. I think the average increase this year was 7% so you will be paying 7% more than you think for about 6 Months say.

sorry mate probably makes it worse LOL.

Always the same answer. No-one knows. If we did we'd all jump the same way.
If you get a fixed tariff, you are simply buying an insurance policy to give you peace of mind-and for that you pay a large premium.

  • True Macman,

For me if prices go up :) if they go down :(. But I'm paying just about the same as last year so :).

I think we should all get together and buy an energy company :j

I heard Matt Stockdale might have one for sale :D

He suggested it was going to offer the cheapest prices - no really!.

You might want to check out why it never got off the ground before buying it though ;)

  • I clicked on the cheap Gas & Electricity on the right hand column on this page. It says what is below. Apparently EDF has already factored in the price rise of 7% in the comparison site. If so its alot cheaper than the others. Is this how it reads to you or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

It’s the PERFECT time to switch – save £300 ALL of the big six energy providers have now announced price hikes of up to 9%. They’ve all taken effect apart from the last to announce, EDF, whose 7% rise hits on 2 March – though it's already factored into comparison sites.

That means compare now, and it’s a level playing field, as they’re all on the same leg of the price rise relay the cheapest now really is the cheapest. The sooner you switch the sooner you save.

I save even more on Npower with a fixed rate as well. Also its not a new customer deal either.

The price comparison websites are a good first calling place but the top 2 or 3 ones which bring you the most savings need either checking on the suppliers website or ringing them up. There is ALWAYS a difference in price and price comparison can be as much as £40 differnent. Hence check it with supplier site or phone them.

I did not need to write this but thought it may be useful to someone.
