Cheap holidays abroad? - Any suggestions?

Just looking for ideas of somewhere with a good balance between cheapness (cheap flight, accommodation, food and local transport) and relatively tourist friendly (low crime, good public transport etc etc). But the overriding priority is price, cheaper the better.
Want to AVOID any party all night atmosphere, booze and clubs etc. Looking more so at a city break, or just a change of scenery.
So far I have only been abroad to Germany (Nuremberg [and took a one day trip to munich]) but not to say I would not want to go elsewhere in Germany.
Hopefully the location will be tourist friendly, although I have knowledge of one o two basic phrases in French, German and Spanish although could not hold a conversation.
I am based in Leeds so suitably located for Leeds/Bradford, Manchester, and possibly Doncaster Airport.
Looking to travel late march/early april for a week or two.
I have done some initial searching for flight prices but hoped someone might have some suggestions of a good place to go, and good hotel etc.
One place I would like to go sometime is Amsterdam (and no not for that lol).
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas.

I only book last minute so www.explorers.co.uk are a good bet. You can sign up for their email.
If you can hold your nerve and wait for last minute, they do 7 days in Sharm El Sheikh starting at £179 p/p for b/b or 14 days from £329. This is flight and accommodation. The Ocean Club is friendly but not particularly swish - the Ocean Bay is located in Naama Bay - more cosmopolitan but a little more expensive.
There are no wondrous landmarks, although you can spend a lovely evening being entertained by the bedouins in the desert eating a meal under the stars.
The locals are fab, food is cheap, you can rely on the weather, the flight is only 4 hours, you don't need jabs and you can snorkel off the beach or even try out a scuba diving course.
I can recommend this for March - avoid half term though for the deals. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
