Insurers are entitled to set their own rules on underwritting and it would appear that your vehicle is outside of their requirements.
When I was a learner driver insurers who I contacted wouldnt put me on cover for me on any vehicle 2.0L and above... could just be that the pru have stricter rules.
Do a few quotes online and see if other insurers will cover you and then it is a decision on if it is worth paying the cancellation fee/ losing a part years NCD or just wait until renewal time. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I suspect that you'll have to do a fair bit of ringing around as it won't necessarily be clear whether or not you can be insured with a provisional licence as a named driver on your vehicle.
A quick bit of digging has come up with these guys who will cover provisional licence holders:

It may be worth three phone calls.
As a new driver, you may also want to think about biting the bullet and sorting out insurance in your own name. This will help you to build up your NCB much quicker - difficult to do when you're a named driver. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers0
