V5C - Is this the log book.
Just had a V5C through the post, its for a car that was bought, so im persuming this is the log book. however, this is bright red and says
'This document is not proof of ownership'
'it shows who is responsible for registering and taxing the vehicle'
Nevber seen a log book like this before.
Is this just how they are sent now, or is this something different that i need to pay attention to???

All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.

That's right. The registered keeper is not necessarily the owner hence the wording.
For example you might have bought a stolen car, a ringer or one with outstanding finance. In that case, even though you are the registered keeper the car could be returned to the rightful owner such as a finance company and you will be left out of pocket.
It is just to cover this sort of occasion is all.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
It's a common misunderstanding that the log book is proof of ownership. Husband was caught out by it a couple of years ago, so I'm pleased that the new ones are making it clear that it isn't. Always get a signed receipt and check it against the log book, as it is the receipt that is proof of ownership.0

Seconded. The log book has said its not proof of ownership on the front for donkeys years.0

Had both of those, plus a receipt actually. Didn't mean diddly squat though. We found out that the seller had no right to sell it as he'd actually registered it to a log book loan company the day before we bought it and had actually given us a copy of the logbook, which anyone can request (after we had done the usual checks which came out clear). The loan company were the actual owners and we only found out 3 months after buying the thing when the bailiffs came to take it away. DVLA couldn't help, the log book loan company said it wasn't their problem, our solicitor said that the log book loan company were within their rights to take the car according to the contract we managed to get a copy of that the seller had signed, and the police couldn't be bothered to investigate what was clearly fraud, even though I had all the paperwork that would have proved it was. We lost the car and the money, and have learnt a lot of very valuable lessons about buying second hand cars and trusting other people.0 -

if he borrowed money against the car the seller had passed possetion to the loan company, probably would of shown on hpi plus with some hpi company's the assure details are correct if found not to be then can offer services.
what you experienced was a different situation to ownership where by the seller wasnt the owner and not legally allowed to sell it. the police wouldnt of got involved its civil matter and to get you money back would of been a court action again the person to whom sold it you.0 -
Looking at that image you've posted I notice it says "NON TRANSFERABLE REGISTRATION MARK" - never seen this on a V5C before, anyone know why?0
