Experience of More Frequent Attendance at Job Centre?

Dear Swanseajack,
The first thing I must say is to keep your head up and don't let the system get you down.
You have a responsibility to yourself and your family and loved ones to keep going. The bureaucracy (not necessarily Jobcentre staff) do not care about your mental anguish and you must not let them distract you from your purpose. Like myself, just recall the amount of Tax that you have paid over the years, the employment that you have created over the years and the attendant tax revenue, and take pride in that.
Now, back to your point. I don't think that most people have the time or inclination to become experts on employment law. Consequently, I am not sure if there has been subsequent rulings but I believe the arguments set out in the ruling below are still valid. In a nutshell the ruling suggests that it is unlawful to require claimants to visit JobCentre twice a week. In essence you just need to show that you are reasonable looking for work...
“a person is actively seeking work if he takes in that week such steps as he can reasonably be expected to have to take in order to have the best prospects of securing employment”.
“… a person shall be expected to have to take more than two steps in any week unless taking one or two steps is all that is reasonable for that person to do in that week.”
The document number is CJSA 1814 2007 if you need to search (I am unable to post a link).:)

Luckily I can-I think you'll find they have that covered here:
Attendance
Notice to attend
20911 If the Emp O gives or sends a notification to a claimant, including each member of a joint claim couple, to tell them to attend at a particular place at a particular day and time, the claimant has to do so1. This notification can be in writing, by telephone or by electronic means. An Emp O is any officer who acts on behalf of the Secretary of State2. The legislation allows other people to be authorized as Emp Os3. Appendix 4 gives details of the people the Secretary of State has authorized as Emp Os in relation to attendance 1 JS Act 95, s 8(1)(a); JSA Regs, reg 23 & 23A; 2 JS Act 95 s 8(3); JSA Regs, reg 4; 3 s 19(10)(a) and 20A(9)
20912 The following are the most common types of notification
1.
ES 40 - tells a claimant to
1.1 attend at a particular Jobcentre Plus office to sign a declaration (for example ES24, ES20SF) on a
1.1.a regular basis (normally fortnightly) and
1.1.b particular signing day at a particular time or
1.2 post in a declaration if they are a postal claimant on a
1.2.a regular basis (normally fortnightly) and
1.2.b particular day0 -
*sigh*
I know this is a old thread
If you are on more frequent attendance then the Jobcentre think you are working. If you are the MFA programme should cause you problems.
If they don't get you to sign off this way and they still think you are working then they may put a report into the compliance team to take it further.
Its as clear as thatThe World come on.....0 -
MFA is also used if it is thought that someone is not doing enough to look for work or their availability is in doubt.0
