Help with planning a long journey ... OS

I sometimes get the coach from Manchester to London which can take about 5 hours-that always seems a long time to me but you can see more from a coach than a car .
Do take lots of food and drink. I'm always hungrier when travelling for some reason.Allow yourself a few "treats"-chocolate or nice cake.
Apart from that the best piece of advice I can give you is to go to the loo just before you get on the coach and again if you stop for long enough. Those coach toilets can be a bit hit or miss-sometimes they are fine but I had one horrible journey when the cubicle was flooded.0 -
not about supplies, but we have a most ridiculous family game on journeys of spotting yellow cars and minis - yellow minis are particularly special. The children of a friend from Brighton way shared this game and it is worryingly addictive - other friends' children now insist on playing it in their car journeys and I think it's spread quite dramatically!
:rotfl: That made me giggle - I ALWAYS play this in the car! My Oh doesnt join in though - he's far too cool for that - I think he plays in his head anyway :cool:Married My Best Friend & Soulmate on 21st July 11! So happy to be Mrs Kyle!:heart2:0 -
Do you get travel sick? I do when I read if I am a passenger on a coach or in a car. Either take tablets or make sure you look out of the window regularly, something to do with the horizon, can't remember the exact science.0

DH and I have played spot the lorry: starting with Edie Stobart then moving to local haulage firms the further we are from home. On the way home we do the rainbow of cars - spot red, yellow, orange (occasionally an orange campervan around) etc...not about supplies, but we have a most ridiculous family game on journeys of spotting yellow cars and minis - yellow minis are particularly special. I've travelled a few places by coach and the other thing is if you stop long enough, get off the bus and stretch your legs (even if you don't have time for a loo-stop)!DFW Nerd Club #545 Dealing With Our Debt

Speaking from experience...
Take bottles of drink rather than cans / cartons. There's less chance of spillage and you can have a mouthful or two when you want rather than having to finish the whole thing. This means you drink less too (and therefore less likely to have to use the bus loo or wait in a Q with crossed legs at the services).
Take more food than you think you'd need. Food is a nice break from the monotany of bus journeys, you might not be moving much but you're constantly hungry. Also, if you have food on board you're less likely to be tempted to but at the services.
Take a bag to put rubbish in.
Out for messy snacks! Take wet whipes if you think you'll need
A blanket or pillow will help you get comfortable
Wear layers - sometimes coaches can be freezing, other times boiling.
Take a leaf out of the South American's book... they tend to sleep for the whole journey - makes it pass in a flash!
Enjoy getting to the other end

Hi I recently did a journey from Plymouth to Edinburgh by train which is ten hours but had ds4 and ds3 with me
I planned the day out starting with a menu with drinks to go with it so I had a massive cool bag and in it had breakfast (bacon muffins wrapped in tin foil) coffee for me and juice for kids, then a snack for the kids with an activity ( I realise you won't need an activity:p) then I planned a lunch and had things like sandwiches, sausage rolls, breadstick, crisps, grapes and cherry tomatoes. Then I had another snack/treat for mid afternoon which was probably a chocolate bar or sweets for us then I packed a tea of crackers and cheese and olives. i think I had some yogurt things for the kids too. It sounds an awful lot but we ate most of it and still had tea when we got to Scotland! All the little picky bits made it really exciting not to mention distracting for the kids when it all got a bit much!!!!!#118 DFW Debt freely Christmas 2012 Challenge0 -

Thanks everyone
just finished baking some scones, made some wraps and sandwiches, packed some muffins and biscuits and stocked up on magazines and books! Thanks again
Next time, if you can travel at certain times it can be really cheap to go by train. I'm not sure how far south you're going but at the right times you can get an advance ticket from edinburhg to birmingham for £16 and glasgow similar!Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Good luck, just be a bit careful if you are planning to read a lot, it can make you horribly travel sick, even if you do not generally suffer, as posted above it is to do with your body knowing it is travelling but your eyes disagreeing (or something like that!)
