Do we have a right to appeal ??????

we are now paying back over payments on our tax credits as they say we didn't tell them our correct earnings.
My partner is self employed and at the time i didn't have the exact figure from his books so i gave them an over estimate to make sure it was covered i spoke to them on another date as i'd changed my job and they confirmed the figures with me again, but i still didn't have exact figures for him.
we were told after i sent figures in that we had to re-pay as they had his earnings at zero I don't understand how this happened as when i went through it on the phone they had it all down right.
Do we have a right to appeal ??????
