Big hike in my car insurance! Shop around!!

As Martin says it's worth shopping around.
I had to claim on my car insurance last year (my fault) after certainly 12 claim free years and 9 years protected bonus. Not sure why I paid that as my insurance hiked up by 150%- somewhat insulting ( and not very "reassuring" to use part of their marketing line)! After several phone calls I have found the cheapest to be one with a local office (real people!!) at only just over 50% increase. I am told that across the industry prices are likely to rise 47% this year. The other interesting point is that two insurance companies phoned me back after a couple of days and were able to lop off a further £20 to get my business- still didn't match the cheapest which also included breakdown cover.

Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
