Barclays saying can't find Accounts

Options
Just started to claim with Barclays and Barclaycard.

I gave them the Account numbers.

They are saying they do not recognise the Accounts.

I do not have any original paperwork or statements because it is 5 years ago at least, but I know the numbers because I remembered I have all my letters on my pc when I sent to them when reclaiming Bank charges and got the Account numbers from there.

Is this a normal Barclays trick ?

Thanks

It may be that, due to the length of time that has elapsed since the accounts have been closed, their records management policy may mean that they no longer have access to those records.

If what you want to reclaim is over 6 years ago, it sounds like that ship has already sailed anyway.
If you’ve got or had a loan, credit or store card in the last six years, ...

Looking at the Bank Charges Claim spreadsheet, there were definately charges in 2005 I claimed for.

    Thanks

Are you saying you didn't keep any statements, but you meticulously itemised all your charges on spreadsheets as they occured over 5 years ago and still have that spreadsheet?

And this on an account that was closed (presumably considered done and dusted since then) over 5 years ago?

Edit: If that really is the case, then presumably you have some records all the amounts paid (e.g. cheques, bank statements, etc)
I would be inclined to ask for all these payments back (not just the PPI charges) as if they can't prove you had an account, they can't prove you owed them any money, so all the money was presumably paid by you in error :D

The only way I know I had the Accounts in the last 6 years is from the spreadsheets of charges (MSE) which were sent to them when reclaiming them back a few years ago (before the Court overuled reclaiming).

It was only a second thought when I checked on Excel that i hadn't deletd them.

I do not have any information on what cheques/withdrawals were made because that was not required when claiming.

Still hunting for any paperwork with their header but not hopeful as wasn't needed after won back charges.

Perhaps not, but you can get that information from your bank :)

  • barclaycard are doing the EXACT same thing to me at the moment! every effort of comunicating with them has only resulted in being given several different phone numbers to end up where i started and ive been given 3 different addresses to write to in less than a week. its driving me mad! im going to write a letter tonight asking for EVERY address they have to make sure the letter gets to the right place eventually. im also going to go to the bank to try to get statements of four years ago, because im sure that for a period of time i paid by direct debit. i bank with barclays so im sure ill meet resistance! also going to ask them straight up WHY they havent got the records i am ENTITLED to
