The Positivity Thread

Hello Money Savers!

I only really use the debt sections of the forum, and the striking thing about many of the threads I have read is the constant negativity that is present throughout. Quite frankly, it gets me down!

I am not going to sit here on my throne and judge - I use the debt sections of the forum as I am paying off my own debts. I am working hard at it, and doing what I can. I have accepted responsibility, given myself a metaphorical kick up the backside and am taking on my challenge.

Those of you who have read or contributed to my diary https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2100825 will know that I am a believer in that what we focus on, we create more of or we become. If you find yourself in debt, focussing on the negative, depressing side of it will just bring your emotions down. Instead, surround yourself with positivity, success, happines and focus on achieving that. Visualise a debt-free life, and strive towards it.

A well-known psychologist, Michael Finnigan once told me there are two types of people in the world...

'Radiators' - these are people who radiate energy, positivity, ambition, desire. They make us feel good and inspire us. They turn bad situations around, they look for the positives.

Then there are...

'Drains' - these people drain us of our energy, our mojo. The glass is always half empty, there is never a way out of a situation. They can't and won't look for the positives. Drains literally sap the life from us.

I am noticing lots of drains on the forum, so lets spread a bit of positivity around here! Make an effort to become radiators - not drains!

Most of us here have debts of some sort, but please tell me what being depressed is going to do to help? Nothing. Walking around with a frown has never put any money back into my bank account, and I am pretty sure it hasn't put any in yours, either.

So, this is the positivity thread - only post good news here. No negativity, or I will ask for it to be removed!

Do we have a (happy, smiley) deal?

  • I will start...

Today I have had £480 put into my account. The old me may have gone out and bought something. The new me realises that attitude got me into debt in the first place!

I have put money into savings, paid off more of my credit card and am now smug, and safe in the knowledge that I am a better version of myself for being strong enough to deal with my debt in a sensible manner, rather than the old half-baked manner I used in the past!

I have just made a stock from the chicken we had on Monday.

Great recycling, and will be used for 2 meals now.

That chicken stretched to a salad for 2 of us, a sandwich for me yesterday, a stock for tonight, and a chicken and veg soup for me this afternoon - THRIFTY!

Lovely name for a diary, and great that you are positive, will pop in now and then to have a look if thats ok.
Dont know if you have read Memory Girls diaries or the Matrix Reloaded thread, but the positivity in there simply radiates, people are actually contributing big things and its seriously life changing.

I wish you well on your diary journey, and will pop back daily.

    Good luck.
  • Thanks fantasia322!

No, I am not aware of the other threads, but I will look when I get a chance.

It seems the world can be quite a down place - every day on the news we hear of cuts, job losses, natural disaster, recession, crime.

If we can promote happy things in the world, it will be a better place for it!

  • Well today I heard the birds sing as I woke up - the first time this year. Maybe spring is around the corner!

Additionally, today will be a personal challenge to spend under £5 all day - I am out of the house for around 12 hours, so will need to feed!

Have you seen the different pictures of the ice when there are positive words written on the container and negative words written on the container?

I'm not explaining this very well. I'll go and try to find pictures...

Now before anyone says anything, I'm not saying I believe in all of this but I do think the crystals are pretty! (well, the positive ones anyway...)

  • Hey KT - I have heard of that study. It was featured in a DVD called 'What the Bleep do we Know?' That I have. I had never seen the pictures though - very interesting stuff!

So, what positive things do we have to share today?

I helped a colleague out at the gym today, and worked really hard there myself. I also have had my last session of the day cancelled, meaning I am finished work at 6 now, rather than 7!

What the bleep do we know... that's the one with Marlee Matlin in it isn't it? I've never seen it. As a trainee sign language interpreter I follow some of the British and American Deaf actors. I think Marlee is probably the best known. I've read her autobiography, it was a very interesting read and not so much about Deafness at all.

My positive thing for today is that while I am doing homework for uni today my bf will be in my flat playing xbox so if it all gets too much and I start to get too stressed I can get a cuddle and a cup of tea. I am also feeling positive because the one piece of work that has been sticking me and holding me back, well, I've had a sudden inspiration for it and I now feel like I know what to do so should hopefully be able to complete it today and tick it off my list.

It's dry outside and lots of wee animals are kicking around my flat.

Chin up everyone and keep smiling!
