sorry you feel like i'm telling you off!
    an honest mistake?
they told you that as of a certain date you were not entitled?
but the system wasnt quick enough so you spent the money even though you KNEW you shouldnt be getting it?

act like an iudiot and you get talked to like an idiot!

Official error does not need to be repaid - they have to ask for it back, but you are under no obligation to pay it back. You need to get it in writing the reason for the overpayment and get them to agree that actually you had notified them of the change and then you can tell them you aren't paying it back. Tax credits MAY be different, but other benefits are not.

kellog......a date had been set for when the benefit should cease.
the op had notice of this. ok the system paid out after it should, but the op clearly knew they were not entitled to the money.

surely its only hmrc error if the claimant doesnt know they arent entitled?

No they didnt specify a date, thats an incorrect assumption on your part.

'The system' needs months to update? Wow, no wonder things are in such a mess.

Unless you can provide simple and helpful advice, dont bother posting any more comments on this thread.
  • Try not using bold on your text, it makes a world of difference.

She is registed blind (nannytone) and needs the bold text, diffrent memebers have diffrent needs and she wansn't been rude or "shouting" so I can see why you are objection to the font that she needs to access this site.

Ok, no problem and my apologies. However, bold can be seen as shouting to some.

Still, its as if the whole issue is 'you knew you were in the wrong so you are wrong' when its more a case of 'really not sure whats going on here and due to financial difficulties the money did end up getting spent'. Besides, what is the point of all the comments that dont provide a simple answer. Everything besides that just doesnt help and is uncalled for.

Case and point. The comment just doesnt help... at all.

it isnt help that you want. its a way out of a problem that you have been complicit in causing.

i assume child benefit stooped as a child left full time education?

    its not brain surgery.
