Which programme setting on your heating is the most energy efficient?

As gas prices have gone through the roof, I was trying to see if it's possible to save any money in this area as I'm sure we all are.

Over the years, I've been told different things by different plumbers as to which is the most energy efficient way of heating your home if you've already got gas central heating, so I thought it would be interesting to see the different ways that people do actually use, and whether there is such a thing as 'a best method'. Perhaps there's someone out there who thinks they might have a definitive answer.

I've got three possible settings for my central heating:

1) To set the heating to be on 24/7, OR

2) To have it on all day but off at night, OR

3) To have it come on twice daily.

I live in a standard semi in Greater London and have my boiler set to come on twice a day. I'm single and work from home.

(I'm obviously referring to heat in winter and water only in summer.)

    Welcome to the forum.

This has been covered many times and in great detail - I suggest you search in the Gas and Electricity section.

For all the hundreds of posts on this subject it all comes down to one statement: - the "definitive answer" as you put it.

The shorter the time you have on your heating & Hot water, the less it costs to run.
