Using a silicone loaf tray inside a metal loaf tin

I am using a silicone loaf pan and the dough is expanding the sides of the mould as it proves.

Will it be ok to put the silicone one inside a tin bread tin so keep it in shape or will this make the bread cook too much when in the oven?

  • I do that all the time to keep the shape and give me something to grab onto when taking it out of the oven.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

    That's great, thanks.

Can anyone give me an idea how long and at what temp to bake it for please?

It's a medium sized milk loaf.

Haven't baked anything in the oven before, just in the breadmaker.

    Ta.
  • This is the method I use too, it's great you get the good shape of the metal tin and the non stick of the silicone:D

Not too sure about timings sorry! My 1lb loaf gets put in and 200 something (fan oven), probably about 220 I think for about 25 mins. I generally do the last 5 mins out of the tins and directly on the shelf.

Thanks, I was thinking about 200 as mine is going in a fan assisted, I'll go and preheat and see how it goes, wish me luck.

Why have I never thought of that - I gave up using my silicone loaf pan in disgust and was really cross at asting the money it cost. Don't think it's escaped to the charity shop yet, so must have a go.

Ok, I have just taken it out of the oven, it is huge!

I think my new oven may be a bit on the high temp side though as the top was quite dark (probably the melted butter that I brushed on it before covering with the clingfilm) and fell to bits as soon as I turned it out of the mould.

The silicone mould was brilliant though, can't believe how the bread just rolled out of it!

I may have another go tomorrow and try baking it at 190 deg.

Clingfilm...??? In the oven?????? That would shrivel and burn and not be edible.

    Am I misunderstanding?

  • I think sb44 must be talking about proving it covered in clingfilm. I use a clean tea-towel myself
