Hi my husbands car was repaired in december by our local garage, it needed a replacement electric window as the winding mechanism had broken and it wouldn't close.

However the same thing has happened again, we are planning to take it back to the garage tomorrow but I just wondered if anyone knew whether the work would be guaranteed or whether we will have to pay again for another replacement?

Thanks in advance
Beth

  • Yes both labour and parts, ( faulty repair) but you need to keep on top of the garage to check what the latest fault is, be there when they strip it out and don't let them fob you off with the storey that its something different failed when it's the same part . It is not beyond possibilty that they did not actually fit a new window mechanism but bodged up the old one to get it working.

Thank you, that's what I was hoping. Think I'm a bit too trusting of people tbh as I wouldn't even have contemplated that they would do that!

Just a question...has it been freezing cold overnight and has it broken following it being opened early in the morning or at any point during the day if the temperature is sub 2C?

Its quite important because if it has been cold overnight and the window frozen shut then by trying to open it without allowing it to unfreeze, you're actually the cause of the problem so its not covered by any guarantee.

Most broken window regulators are down to muppets trying to open them when they're frozen to the rubbers.
