plenty out there on google regarding that.
First try uninstalling the acpi driver , then letting it install it again.Update your drivers for hardware , use hwinfo32 (google) to tell you the hardware drivers to get.
That should sort you , if it doenst then do a clean install even with an upgrade version of software.0 -

how do i uninstall this driver? where do i get update from0 -
settings , device manager , acpi , highlight , uninstall , refresh and it will load the driver again.
you get drivers from the net , if you use hwinfo32 it will tell you the hardware , then do a google to get the website of the manufacturer for drivers.
Example hwinof says vga is ati , so you would googel for ati drivers.0 -
thanks will try in the morning0

Sounds like a legacy device isn't turning off, this is a common problem with old devices.
The shutdown thing is "Advanced Power Management". This needs to be enabled. Go to the "Power Options" in Control Panel and look for the APM tab (second in from the right?) Slap a tick in the enable box and then your shutdown will be as you expected
No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you0 -
It's probably because bits of the old operating system and drivers have been left lying around. Reinstalling ACPI and/or mucking about with APM may or may not work; these things are tightly integrated with the Windows HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer), which can be a real headache to deal with without a lot of foreknowledge of it. I certainly don't know enough to go messing with it...
May seem a bit drastic from your point of view, but a clean install will probably fix it.0 -

Interesting... I can't find that option anywhere.
Probably because I did a clean install though. Heh.0 -
I don't get it either. I think it probably only occurs on some upgrade and when legacy hardware which isn't ACPI compliant is present.
ACPI is the most common way of power management these days rather than APM.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:
