Benefit and going abroad

I've tried to contact DWP about this, but they're closed. So I figured I'd ask here in the meantime.

Okay, so I'm claiming contribution-based JSA after being made redundant late last year. To complicate things, I am in receipt of Income Protection payments.

A friend of mine passed away last week and I need to attend her funeral and would need to be out of the country for 4 nights. As I say, I claim JSA right now and I'm aware that I would need to sign off for the period of abscence and sign on again when I return. Fine, I'd be more than happy to do this.

The problem is that, as I mentioned, I am in receipt of income protection payments. I would also loose my payments, at least for the 4 days, I would expect.

My quesiton is, does anybody know off hand if I would be able to continue claiming the IP payments once I sign back on, upon my return. This is my biggest headache and if I can do so, it would really make my life easier. I would hate to lose out on the remining period of my claim for the sake of a few days. And I really ought to go as she was one of my closest friends at school.

If I elected not to tell the Job Centre, is it possible that they would find out?

Comments

  • Are you due to sign on in the 4 days you are away?
  • No, I'm not due to sign during the 4 days I'm away as I've already checked this. But the DWP site clearly states that any time abroad must be declared and sign off.

As I say, I don't really have an issue with this, but I would like to know where I stand on the Income Protection area.
  • this depends on the terms of the policy but I cant see why not. The jobcentre would still stamp the ABI1 for the period of un employment
