Hi guys
I would be really pleased if there's anyone out there can help me.
I recently made myself a website - just to proove i could do it - you know!
It wasn't about anything in particular - more a test. More recently however my local school had a bonfire night to raise funds and I had hoped to resurect my website to help promote this - so I did...
Beautiful website all about the firework display, parking, ticket information etc etc..
Trouble was - Dear old Google etc was still picking it up with the previous information, and not the search words, bonfire, nov 5th etc.
Time went past and I thought in time it would pick up the new search words, but even though I have changed the meta tag, named Keywords and title to bonfire bonfire bonfire, the only way this site will come up is using my name which it was about previously - ahhhhhh
Bonfire at school thankfully went really well dispite my pathetic efforts on the web front - but frustration still prevails - how do I get my preferred search engine to pick up this site with it's new contents -
please help me - next stop "the samaritans!"

Nothing you can do apart from wait for it to reindex your site, metatags have limited or no effect..
http://www.google.com/addurl/Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks albertross
I've waited, weeks, i've waited months, are we talking years here?!

Hi google bots have alot of work todo and will only get to you when they can, if they feel your website isnt important enough then they will only visit once every couple of months (if that) Mine currenty gets a visit twice a month and even that isnt enough.
The truth is that googles bot's rely on links from other sites to yours. !
What if you havent got any ?
Well it will take longer for the bot to find you again,
Why ?
Because when google bot finds a website it looks at all the links and visits them too.
For Example if you had a link to your site on http://www.ebaumsworld.com/ where the bot visits everyday because of the sites high page ranking then the bot would visit you much more too and in time would push you up the search engine
In a round about way its like that anyway....:D
Take a look Here for articles on SEO theres a new article most days

If you just leave your site and not working on promoting it ! Well it will never change as albertross said meta tags play a little part in the matter now days
Also a little tip when swaping links get a mixture of high and low PR sites other wise Google's bot will dismiss you a spam
*PR = Page Rank ( availiable from your google toolbar or http://www.seologs.com/pr-check/pagerank.html?url=www.BioMarinex.com )
If it doesn't fit, force it; if it breaks, it needed replacement anywaySarcasm helps keep you from telling people what you really think of them

Thank Spurs1234
bit disheartening isn't it - not such an instant advertising tool that I thought it might be!
Oh well, if I leave it there until next year, perhaps it will be coming up in the search results!!
Thank you very much for your explanation - didn't find Google itself very helpful at all!
kind regards

You can actually block google from viewing your site and it will be washed from their database then just re-submit the url, Ive done it loads of times.

Yeah it does take time but just leaving it will never work try and get as many links as you can and offer sites a "link swap" some will accept some wont.
If you do the back links properly there is no need to submit to google because it will find you the natural organic search way :rolleyes:If it doesn't fit, force it; if it breaks, it needed replacement anywaySarcasm helps keep you from telling people what you really think of them

on google webmaster tools, it says my sitemap has errors, but that my site has been "site verified"
does that mean anything - looked at the sitemap thing, but was sunk by technology, didn't know what it meant
mm0 -
Yeah site map is a way to help the google bots it basicly means you tell it about each one of your pages and then it gives you detailed info about traffic and things, i havent set it up on any of my sites yet so im affraid i cant got into deep detail on how to use it.
If you want to check your site for the common errors you can go here

But make sure you back up you make a back up before editing anything it says is wrong. I found out the hardway :rolleyes:If it doesn't fit, force it; if it breaks, it needed replacement anywaySarcasm helps keep you from telling people what you really think of them
