Looking for On-line organiser

After many years of faithful service my Pocket PC has finally died, so I've decided I'd like to set up and on-line organiser and am looking for suggestions.
My requirements are:
1) It must allow me to enter customisable tasks and events (e.g one-off and recurring, at variable weekly, monthly and yearly intervals); facility to put them into different categories; I must be able to set alarms and reminders
2) If possible, It should also have a "Contacts" section.
3) I must be able to "synchronise" it between my desktop and laptop in a similar way to how my Firefox Bookmarks are automatically synchronised between them.
4) It must ideally be free or at least not very expensive.
I've looked at a few, and one which appears to meet most of requirements is Picobeat. The add-on for Mozilla Thunderbird (Lightning) looks good but I don't think I can sync it; I also looked at Google's calendar and MS Live's, but they either don't have a "tasks" facility or it's not customisable.
So before I start putting all my data onto Picobeat can anyone offer alternatives or tell me how they have found Picobeat?

I use Picobeat, Voo2do and Scrybe.
Picobeat is excellent, I use it for my business and my partner uses it for her Ebay shop to keep track of everything.
I would definitely recommend Pictobeat now Scrybe has closed it's sign up process.
R.I.P Dad. I will never forget you xxx0 -

Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't really meet the requirements listed in (1) and (2) of my list.
It looks as if their other product, Basecamp, might, but the price of $49 per month is not really within my budget."The trouble with quotations on the Internet is that you never know whether they are genuine" - Charles Dickens0 -
Why not set up a google account and use the igoogle homepage?
You can have calendars, tasks, emails etc. all on one page.
Mine has the news and weather on it but you can remove this and just have a larger calendar etc.

Sorry to be fussy, but AFAICS there is no facility for recurring tasks. E.g. Suppose I want to remind myself to check the car's oil on the first of every month, I want this to automatically re-appear for the following month, once I have cleared the current one.Why not set up a google account and use the igoogle homepage?

But if I'm missing something, please tell me."The trouble with quotations on the Internet is that you never know whether they are genuine" - Charles Dickens0 -

when in the gmail account choose calender and you can create events and you have the option to set it for every week, every 2 weeks etc, what day and time, have a look, it wont take long to get an account0 -
Get a google account and use google calendar, contacts, etc
Get an Android phone, link it to that google account, tada, everything in sync, alarms and reminders on phone and pc, add contacts synced, portable, flexible, free-to-cheap.0 -

Yes, it is possible to do that. On the calendar you can set recurring events. Here's a screenshot:
And as above, you can sync everything to an Android device including contacts and facebook!0
