I use create.net. £2.99 a month and pretty straightforward to use. lots of different templates, etc. I think you can have a month free too to see if you like it.......
Before I decided I wanted to pay for a site though, I used blogspot.com - completely free, and you can direct your new domain name to it. I think it depends how professional you want the site to look though. Good luck!0 -

Thank you! Started off really well but I didn't realise there is so much choice!!:j0 -
If you're just making a personal website you could possibly host it yourself for free. Clearly for this you've got to have an always-on computer and the power usage costs could be around £50/year depending on how many watts your PC uses.
I use http://www.editdns.net - you just have to direct DNS requests for your domain name to the EditDNS servers, and run a little application which updates the domain name to point to whatever IP address you get from your ISP.
Sorry loads of tech terms there if you're not a techie so ask if you want any more details0 -
It's not what you want to hear, but if you use cheap/free hosting then it can hit your pocket. For four years I used a cheap host before I was forced to change. In a panic, I picked the best sounding one for the job. It was pricier (about 5x as much), but the whole site was so much faster with them - and instantly my income rose dramatically. One of Google's recent changes has been to factor in site load time, into its algorithm of how important your site is to the search results.
I'm 100% convinced (as nothing else changed), that moving to a faster/pricier host made my online/site income improve.0 -
You could try Google Sites which is free, you get 100Mb of storage and choice of templates etc. Go to sites . google . com0

If you are selling things on your site you will need to pay more money to get a decent host who can do secure e-commerce.
Speak to people who do online marketing, with the right team behind you could sell sand to arabs and get rich while doing so.0 -
i use these here for free hosting, never had a problem and also able to install opencart for e-commerce0

Hi
I've just started to use Weebly, which is free to host and absolutely easy to build a site using their extensive templates. You can add in Google ads and a paypal shopping cart. They give you a weebly sub domain name but you can easily change this to use your own registered name. So far I'm really impressed. I haven't signed up for their affiliate programme (which isn't rammed down your throat anyway) or anything like that, so this isn't SPAM - just a reply to say I'm genuinely impressed. Have a quick look by searching on google. When building a site you can drop in google maps, RSS, videos, audio etc. Hope this helps
