Training Lead for GS - strong and 15 or 20 metres long??

Hi,
Looking at various trainign leads but already have so many "mistake" purchases from the net that I though I better ask.
I neeed a long (15 or 20 metres long) lead that will be strong enough for a nearly 40kg of german Shepherd (both lead and the clip) and must have a padded handle.
What I am seeing are very flimsy leads, very thin or with very weak "clip" on them, too short (10 metres is too short for me) and with flimsy handles.
Can anyone recommend where to lok for what I need? I am only looking for personal recommendations from people who have those leads so seen them in real life - no use to read descriptions on the net as I have found out several times.. sigh...
Thanks a lot

Try a horse tack shop and ask for a lunge line. The cheaper ones won't have a padded handle you ask for, but you should be able to find something. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

I have a very soft, but strong rope that I make long lines with. Usually 30ft or 50ft but any length to order. I'll pm you the details.A dog with a behaviour problem needs help not punishment.0

I have a long tracking line that I have used before, but it's really annoying to have to keep winding it up, plus it gets wet/muddy etc, that I've only used it a couple of times.
I use a strong extendable lead with a halti for Oakley now if I want him to be on the lead but run around a bit. I do keep my eyes and ears about me for any problems but he reacts when I lock the lead (it clicks) and stops before the lead goes tight, so it isnt dangerous - I know a lot of people say that you shouldn't use haltis with these leads as there is potential for damage to the dog if he stops quickly, but to be honest, the damage would be more likely to me! He is pretty good though and does react very quickly when I lock it.0 -
I already have an extentable lead (flexi) but t is :
1) not long enough
2) handle is plastic
3) can not let her run with it like could with a line and "step on" it when needed.....
Really want a line type of thing..
Thanks0 -
I've got a 10m one - to be honest I couldn't cope with anything longer since even with that the dog tries to indulge in a spot of cats cradle with the human people's legs!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

If I stepped on Oakley's line when he was running after something I'd end up unceremoniously dumped on my behind!! :rotfl:My friend who walks her dog Jaz with mine had a hilarious incident when she met one of her friends whose dog has a dodgy recall. She had him on a line, but Jaz obviously didnt approve of this and spent the next half an hour with the line in her mouth leading the other dog around, much to the other dog's obvious embarrassment! (funny how they can look embarrassed!) Allegedly after this incident, the lady never needed to use the line again as her dog came back in a whisker so that he wouldnt have to suffer the bossy bi**h who trotted around with him! :rotfl:0 -
Caroline - I have seen this before with dogs.. always the "leading" one seems to enjoy the role LOL
DIzziblonde - where I take Zara in the mornings, it is a massive open space , just grass, no bushes, completely flat and the size of like 4 3 football pitches, nowhere to tamgle the line and I am not going to hold it, it is going to be attached to Zara's collar and loose on the ground behind her.
Just got one last night, borrowed from a friend till I get one that I like - this one is quite wide, not a rope style - going out in a bit and will see how it goes....
Sarabe - thanks for the links, will have a better look later - just dropped cats at the vets so a bit ermmmmm worried... till they get back home
Rakha - I would not have a clue where to look for a horse shop... LOL0 -

I tried to train my Springer to go and fetch my old deaf Sprollie, but the Sprollie wasn't having any of it, and told the Springer where to go......Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
Raksha - thanks.. LOL
I am off now to test the line I managed to borrow with Zara but have Caroline';s scenario on my mind as it is raining outside so grass will be slippery.. stepping on a flat line (it is not a rope type, more like a tape type) may be interesting.. slideeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and on my butt....
Will update later

So... this is what it looked like:

and the full lenght of the line/rope/whatever:
So far so good, she can still run after her ball semi-free and I can grab/step on the line just in case.
On those fields I have a nice 360 degrees view.
Met 2 dogs on the way. Pulled her close on a lead, made her sit and let the dogs walk pass. Good. No reaction. Both dogs were on leads - she would normally go psycho on them, did not know any of those 2.
Uffff hope this continues this way0
