incapacity benefit check up

I have been on incapacity benefit for 3 years now and last month I was called in to see the DHSS Dr. to see whether I could work or not. He agreed with me that I could not and said he would write to the men behind the desks to tell them this. I have not heard anything for over a month now. Should I have heard something? Do they write and tell you no matter what the decision is?

It can sometimes take them ages to get back to you with a decision about the benefits. If your benefits are still going into your account then dont worry! They will definately write and tell you if the benefits are stopped - I would have thought that they will even if they carry on.

The decision on whether your Incapacity Benefit will continue is not made by the Doctor you saw but by DWP decision makers so the Doctor should not have said that to you. Having said that Decision makers often follow the Doctors advice. They will write to you with a decision either way but there are increasing backlogs due to staff cuts so it may take a bit longer.
