Cordless Analogue Phone/Intercom

Hello

Hope this is in the right place and that someone on here can help.

We live in an old Welsh farmhouse (2ft thick walls) with detached stone barn and have problems with cordless phone reception. We've got a digital Panasonic phone/answering machine which is great in certain rooms but useless outside or in the barn. However, we have also got an old Southwestern Bell "Freedom" analogue cordless phone which is the only phone which works at one end of the house or in the barn but this has finally given up the ghost! :( It's probably not feasible to put an extension socket in the barn as we've already got several corded/plug-in phones/extensions as well, so we'd probably exceed the allowable limit if we add any more.

Can anyone recommend a suitable cordless analogue phone which will work outside and in the barn and cope with solid stone walls. If possible, we'd also like an intercom facility (which the Southwestern Bell phone had). We've tried various makes/models of digital phones in the past but the only way to get a dialling tone and receive/answer calls without losing signal is with an analogue cordless. Is it still possible to buy analogue cordless phones anywhere?

Thanks in advance.

If you've looked and can't find any then I guess you are limited to boot sales, junk shops, and eBay.

It isn't the number of extensions it's the number of phones (or dect bases) connected. Modern kit is usually a maximum of REN 1 and I'm pretty sure a normal line will support REN 4. Do you really use 4 wired phones or dect bases already?
  • Thanks kiwibreaks - we've currently got 3 phones (1 digital cordless, 1 analogue cordless (now broke!) and 1 corded phone) plus broadband (4 pcs connected via Homeplugs & a further cordless phone) connected to the phone line.

Even if we did wire another extension/phone in the barn it doesn't solve the problem of being unable to use digital cordless phones in certain areas of the house or outside. We also had loads of trouble with wireless broadband, again due to the thickness of the walls, hence the Homeplugs, which are brilliant.

Really, we've looking for a super-duper cordless phone but I don't think they exist (or at least not within our price range)

    Thanks again
