Hi Hope someone can help me with this:
Plan was to restore my Girlfriends dads PC back to it's original state when it was first bought. He had made some backup disc when he first got the PC (Consisted of 6 discs)
He started to work through it until it got to the 5th disc where he said it just stopped working (ie pointed towards a corrupt disc). As a result it stopped the restore, however now when he switches the PC on it comes up with a blank screen and a message saying "NTLDR is missing press Ctrl Alt Delete to Restart"
Whenever he restarts it just comes back with the same message but also opens the CD ROM bay aswell.
Anybody got any ideas? I tried searching on the message using google which found a small program that would fix it however the CD bay just opens up and we can't get to a stage where we can try and run it. We can't even boot up in Safe mode or anything.
Here's hoping

Tried it with the XP disk in and without it in. As soon as the PC starts up it ejects the disc. I've tried changing the Boot Up sequence in the Bios settings to make it try to boot from the CD Rom first but this doesn't make any difference either.0 -

Although it could be a software fault i would test the hard drive and ram too
This diagnostic cd will test them for you
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
However if you are not on ADSL or DSL then let me know and i will up load a much smaller version for you.
If they test ok then follow this.
to fix it:
u should boot up with windows xp
go to repair windows then go recovery console from cd rom
if u'r cd rom drive is d: and u'r hard disk is c:
just type this:
c:\copy d:\i386\ntldr
it's ntLdr not ntdir
then type:
c:\exit
u'r pc will restart and everything should work fine
See if that works ?If it doesn't fit, force it; if it breaks, it needed replacement anywaySarcasm helps keep you from telling people what you really think of them

You may be able to get a lead of a copy of XP Home and just download the drivers off Hewlett Packard support site.0

Ok good luck
just reread your post , i would have said that if its not faulty ram or harddrive then the media or the cd drive could be at fault. You may be able to get a lead of a copy of XP Home and just download the drivers off Hewlett Packard support site.
Would make sence , but make sure its an OEM copy otherwise you code on the side of the machine wont workIf it doesn't fit, force it; if it breaks, it needed replacement anywaySarcasm helps keep you from telling people what you really think of them
