Cheque in Euros into English bank account

Options
Hi there,

I've received a cheque in Euros and was wondering what (if any?) charges I'll have to pay to pay this into an english bank account.

If there are, do any banks charge more than others? I have accounts with Smile, Natwest, Nationwide and Halifax.

Many thanks

  • It will take about 28 days to cash with halifax with a certain percentage taken. It will not be confirmed in branch - will be confirmed later in writing by the international banking team

Ask all the banks with whom you have accounts about their fees to process the cheque. Expect to pay about ten pounds, and to wait a long time for your money.

If it's a reasonable amount it may be worth opening a Euro currency current account with a bank and then paying it in. It works quicker and a lot less charges this way. I used to have a USD account as I used to sell stuff on US ebay that I sometimes got cheques or money orders for in USD. You get hit when you withdraw it with poor conversation rates that's the only thing to remember!
  • Cheers for the replies.
  • Don't Lloyds TSB have an account with no charges for foreign currency?
  • Hi, I had the same problem today, I was told on the phone by customer service there was no charge as we are euros are accepted here, but when I took the cheques to the bank they wanted £25 per cheque! I am now shopping around, I have been told to contact the Post office, so will try them in the morning.
