Asda Smart Price Food

Hello all,
I've recently been going to Asda, due to the price match offer.
I normally buy Basic at Sainsburys and Value at Tesco, all of which are fine apart from the Tuna.
So does anyone buy Smart Price items and how do you find them?
There dosn't seem to be as big a range of Smart Price as there is for Basic or Value, although I might be missing some as its well over a year since I last went to Asda before the Price Match thing.
This is what I've bought at the moment, its not a big list....
Smart Price Asda Chocolate and Nut Cerial Bars - these are good
Lemon Toilet Cleaner - good
Coleslaw - very bad
Any more?

I only really shop in Asda and don't buy Smart Price very often but when I read your thread it occurred to me that when I do - boy is it the unhealthy stuff!
However, off the top of my head:
Chicken curry ready meal - very good, like a chinese, bargain at 75p
Baked cheesecake - excellent. Very like Entemmans
Flapjack - excellent, more crumbly than many of the pricier brands - this is possibly personal taste but more homemade to me.0 -
Smart Price Stuffing - Cheap, cheerful and does its job
Smart Price Mayo - Ideal for making egg may sarnies
Smart Price Biscuits - No real difference as far as I'm concerned
There are some things I just can't buy S/PLucylema x :j0 -
Some of the greatest 'value' products I buy
Sainsburys only - Summer fruits squash
sponges (~12p for 5... they do the job)
jay cloths
polish
dusters etc.
juices (although I prefer Aldi juice which is actually cheaper)
tinned veg (carrots, peas, kidney beans)
baked beans with sausages (~29p in most of them)
frozen mixed veg - Prefer tesco one to asda (better veg selection).
cider -> Add some value apple/blackcurrent or summer fruits and its pretty tasty
Coleslaw -> I quite like it vinegery...
Potato salad -> not too bad
Tortilla chips -> bland flavour (less salt = slightly better) but add some salsa (Y)
value sausages (fridge ones) are quite nice from sainsburys only.
value cheese & tom fridge pizzas -> Add some ham and mushroom etc. and its a great base
sandwich bags - around 50 for like 30p or something, pretty good for holding sandwichs and wrapping meat for freezer etc.
stuffing if good
biscuits are quite good too
Some more I buy but too many I forget0 -
Thanks both, I wouldn't buy mince or meat (if it can be bought Smart Price that is).
I first started with both Basic and Value after reading :money: Martin's Down Shift Challenge and found they wern't to bad after all.
Thats interesting about the stuffing and mayo, as I don't rate the Basic stuffing at all and I've never tried the mayo. I go for own brands on those two.0 -
I really HATE Asda's smart price salsa...very cheap & watery compared to T's & S's..I generally prefer S's basics the best overall though.0

Hi
I buy Smartprice:
Peanut butter-ok and a lot cheaper than Whole Earth
Soya Milk-Great in tea
Golden Syrup-Looks the same as Tate and Lyle (I haven't used it yet)
Pasta Sauce-Used once and it was ok
Passata-Makes lovely pasta/pizza sauce and costs 25p
Tortilla chips-Nice and crisp but a bit salty
Dark chocolate-Brill in cakes and biscuits
Milk chocolate-If you need a chocolate fix this is ideal for 30p.Sealed Pot Challenge No 089-Finally got a signature.:rotfl::j0 -
I had a quick look in the cupboard and we use the following smart price products:
Frozen Cauliflower - ok when added to cheese sauce
Brown sauce - ok to add to cooking
Choc swiss roll - usually serve with custard for a quick desert
custard (tin) - not a brilliant custard but ok.
sliced Beetroot - it's my pregnancy craving
Porridge Oats - ok for using when cooking in crumbles etc - not so nice as porridge
Kidney beans - ok in chillis
strawberry jam
marmalade - nice addition to marmalade cake!
Passata
Natural yogurt - ok with fruit puree
Nappy sacks - does the job
J-cloths - not brilliant but are ok.
Lasagne sheets - are ok
Macroni Cheese (tin) - we mix with tuna, worcs sauce and grated cheese on top then bake for 30 minutes for a yummy supper
Coloured cheddar - is ok to grate and cook with
Green Pesto - mix with yoghurt for a creamy pesto pasta sauce
Facial tissue - use once but ok.
SP fairy cakes - nice to decorate with icing, taste ok
butter - cooks ok.
Frozen Broccoli - bit bitty but ok in brocolli & cheese sauce
Sweet pickle - ok on sandwishes
SP Sweetcorn - bit pale but good to cook with
Styling Gel - hubby uses this and doesn't complain (unless his hair is long and he needs something with more oomph)
Hair Conditioner - great for pulling the nit comb through hair on nit night!
Black pepper - bit powdery but ok for cooking with
dark chocolate - ok for cooking with
i'm sure we get more but there are some things that we've tried and won't be getting again; it's all about trial and error.
good luck. Cat.xDFW Nerd Club #545 Dealing With Our Debtnever attribute anything to malice which can be adequately explained by stupidity, [paranoia or ignorance] - ZTD&[cat]

I have to admit we have tried the basic range in A**A, T***O and Sainsbugs and there aren't many we liked from A**A. That is one of the main reasons we went back to Sainsbugs as we like lots of their basic range.GC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100

golden syrup

Thats great, thanks all, thats a good list for me to work with. Some of the things I buy and some I don't. Very interested in the Passata at 25p. :T0
