Tax Credits "Tell 'em"

I DID Tell 'em but always on the receiving end of Tax Credits and over payments through no fault of my own. EVERY time I have a change I'm on the phone sometimes to be told I'm informing them to early and have to call back when the change happens!!
My most current change was my childcare as it decreased-and there I was informing them asap. I waited 6 weeks (4 weeks for change to appear) & still no Credits change through my bank so as per usual I phoned back to ask what was happening and the reply was it hadn't be passed on to the appropriate department and they admitted that I had phoned when I said I had so this would be processed that day. No apology or nothing. To the result there was an over payment due by me at a cost of £200 less a month from August-April when it then increases again.
This has happened to me before and im ALWAYS re-phoning about a claim to avoid over payments. I always panic in case they say they have no record of me phoning and overpayment due.
Some people say they hate change and no wonder if they've dealt with the Inland Revenue's useless Tax Credit system time and time again then it should be a recognized phobia!
So, the question is, where do we stand when its their fault they haven't dealt with our changes? We still get penalized for it, one rule for us, a million for them!! So whether you 'Tell 'em' or not beware!! :(

i don't see how youre penalised.
you have an evrpayment which is taken at a later date. you still get the correct amount, just not on a regular payment.
if you knew you were getting too much ( which you did as you said you phoned again when they didn't lower your payment)why did you spend the money and not hold it back to compensate when they lowered your payment to take into account the overpayment?

It's ridiculous, WE don't know how much we are entitled to in Tax Credits, WE have no way of knowing which changes will affect the amount, and by how much, but WE have to deal with it when THEY screw things up!

Always amazes me that people complain about something they get for free......

If you have a change in circumstances, you know that they provide 70% of a certain amount of your childcare, so, if your childcare costs change, and you notify them of it - budget for 70% of the lower amount of your childcare! DON'T spend the extra payments you get (and even if they do process it right away, it may still take time to work through the system as payments may be on the way to yoru bank) - as you KNOW you may have to pay it back. It just takes a little more careful budgeting is all.

Yes, it can be frustrating, but at the end of the day, you are getting something that helps you - and sometimes, you have to help yourself through budgeting during the times when changes are being updated.

So still fairly simple to work out then Sunnyone? Isn't it 80% up to a certain amount, over which you pay all of the remainder?

Do you not get a 'Revised Notice of Entitlement' after every change computed by HMRC?

If you don't get one you must then realise that the changes haven't been put into operation.
Until you get the new Notice you would be as wise to put something away, an estimate for the times that the payments go down.

troll off andy, you have been banned under this name without the capital M already today.
