Repairing keyed bodywork

Last night some thug decided to key my car, 2 panels are deeply scratched down to the undercoat.
Its a long story but the poice are involved as he was verbally abusive to me, threated to damage my car and low and behold when i returned to it 5 mins later it had been keyed. There wasnt any cctv in the carpark but i do have a witness who heard his threats, the guilty party denies keying the car tho.

I'm not sure how to take it forward.
Do i just suck up the cost (around £300), the car isnt a year old yet!
Do i go through my insurnace company, i have 10 years no claims and would hate to loose it.

ANy thoughts?

thanks

  • I parked in a parking bay he wanted and I was supposed to know he wanted despite him not giving any indication and being parked in a disabled bay opposite whilst he waited!!

    Not enough, obviously.

Almost certainly not worth claiming on insurance for £300 of damage.

If you do get the car fixed, take before and after photos and keep the invoice, they may have a part to play in any police prosecution.
