Shuttle launch - how best to see while in Florida?

I remember very vividly watching it take off and thinking, "this is OK, but now what?" and then the sound hitting me - almost knocked me off my feet and I could understand why the 'regulars' were sitting down.

Ah good, someone else felt same!! One of our group (we were a group of daft divers diving Fla Aquifer System) started spouting off about Von Braun as the yanks were spuriously applauding their innovation to make it into space, I nearly witnessed my first lynching that day too :rotfl:0 -
Keeping my fingers crossed worked. I watched the launch live on news 24 and wished I was with JackRS in Florida instead of a hotel in rainy Plymouth.0

Your crossed fingers might have made the difference, like I said earlier it only made the launch window by 4 seconds due to a computer fault. We fly home Monday arriving Tuesday morning, we've had a lovely week with temperatures in the mid 80's F, high 20's C all week, probably similar to the UK...Regards

We’re back in the UK now and I’ve uploaded the video clip of the launch (link below). It’s 2 clips patched together, the first part shows the scene on the causeway at KSC in terms of the people and coaches, this scene is repeated for several 100 meters along the causeway. The launch itself was taken by my son on his iPod Touch, so there’s no zoom used. This shows the naked eye view, it’s around 7 miles away and apparently the closest the general public can get?

Great video, its something I am sure you will never forget, my launch was STS 100 and that was packed with spectators, we were told it was because the arm being taken up on Endeavour was Canadian and lots of Canadians was made the journey to watch it being launched.
I have been lucky and seen the space station and Discovery passing over my house the last two evenings the times are on the NASA website under www.spaceflight.nasa.gov realtime data, It looks like next monday Discovery can been seen 1 minute behind the ISS.0 -
Thanks for sharing that JackRS, brings back an amazing memory!0
