I know these are usually taken of your salary, but my missus doesnt work since last year. we had a baby in Sep 2009, she was on maternity leave but she hasnt come back to work, so she stays st home since then.
any help with this ?
+ how can they send her underpayment letter now, when last year she made a tax return claim and received about 200 quid in overpaid tax !

she received a letter today with the cheque to fill in and we're expected to pay the whole amount by the 16th of March now...we can't afford this as we're in the middle of moving houses now as we've been offered accomodation from the housing association.
i dont know what to do with this now...0 -
if she has underpaid they will expect it to he paid back, if I were you I would contact them asap and try and arrange a payment plan
Is you partner going back to work soon? if she is you could ask them if they can change her tax code and recover it that way0 -
my partner has a tax underpayment of £78 and they have adjusted his tax code to recover it.0

If she doesn't make a voluntary payment then a self assessment tax return will be issued and the tax will be collected formally under the self assessment rules. All this should have been explained on the letter accompanying the P254 payslip
