Planning permission

Hi
Need some help please. Next door neighbour has applied for planning permission for a single storey extension. Received a letter from the council with plans. Trouble is there are no dimensions with the plans.
Hubby goes to local town hall where the guy who is dealing the the case says oh yes and then works the dimensions out with a ruler. It is coming out 6 metres, going all the way across the house and is 2.9?? something high. (Sorry cant remember how high but it is a standard height.
What I cannot understand is how they can accept plans without dimensions on them. As it will block the light in our lounge and the sun on our patio we are planning to object.
Another thing is last year we were told by the local council that the most we could go out was 4 metres (detached house) and that we should withdraw our application as it was a little more than 4 metres and there is no way we would get it.
Is there such a thing as a precedent for an area and how do you find out what it is?
Any help on how to object would be most helpful as this is causing sleepless nights.
Thanks once again.

So what did the LA planner say about the likelihood of it succeeding if it is 6m deep?
Why not first discuss it with your neighbour, it's in his interest to co-operate with you?
Then you can object via the standard procedure if you are not happy.
There is no automatic 'right to light', it's more likely to be thrown out if the size is disproportionate to the existing structure. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Here's a good list on what you can object on - http://www.richmond.gov.uk/what_is_a_valid_objection_to_a_planning_application - it'll be the same for every area. As far as why they have accepted plans without dimensions or whether they will be told the same as you about not going more than 4m, you have to ask the planning department those questions. To be honest though, I can't really see how a single storey extension will make much difference to your light, but it does sound a bit absurd to put that big an extension on single storey!0

you can apply for anything you want. whether the council accept/pass them is another matter entirely.
are you saying the PP has been granted?Get some gorm.0 -
When I built my house we took the dimensions off the plan using a scale rule, It's not difficult. Obviously, it is easier for others to understand if the plan is fully dimensioned, but it was not particularly hard to work with when building the house.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
