VW Golf service light

Hi,

I am considering buying an 06 plate VW Golf 1.4 litre petrol version from a dealer.

I understand these come with a service light that needs turning off. Does this mean I will have to get it serviced by VW every year?

Thanks in advance.

Any garage that does a service will reset it.

You can also turn it off yourself if you do a google search for the instructions, but don't use that as a reason to miss a service.

I read it knows the difference between the manual reset and a proper garage resetting the service light.

    True.

A.N.Other garage can turn the light off, but it will not come back on again! The way VW turn the light off resets the light to come on again when the next service is due (time or mileage).

VW are shifting their focus to customer satisfaction as a priority this year, so you can get an interval service for £129 all in, or a full service for £229. Getting a job done properly, with genuine parts & the service light reset properly cannot come at a more reasonable price surely?!

i serviced my passat tdi last august and reset the service light myself, think i pressed braked and trip reset button or something?? anyway service light came on again as it should a week back telling me it needs service in 2000 miles.

not sure if a golf is different but it definately works fine on a passat.

It can either be reset by plugging it in, reading all the fault codes, then resetting the service light, which the car should record, or by basically pressing the odometer buttons correctly. It should record that as well. It'll work correctly next time.
It is also possible to actually turn it off by re-programming the car ecu to disable it.
