Discounted computers for students?

Hi
I'm doing a course with the Open University and would like a new laptop, as mine is a bit old and not very reliable.
I use my computer mainly for internet/e-mail and sometimes I watch iPlayer. I'm NOT keen on games or film/music downloading.
Are there any companies that offer student discount at all? What would you advise me to do?
Cheers

Apple and Dell both offer student discounts. But who gives a discount shouldn't be your first concern, just focus on finding the best spec for your budget.
This is well priced for the spec at £300. Adequate for what you say you'll be using it for and then some:

If you don't want anything too overpowered or expensive, a netbook is a great option. They're small, light and extremely portable, and often come with all the ports and gadgets of a larger computer. You don't get as much grunt, but if you're only browsing the web and writing documents they're ideal.0

I disagree. I do have a net book for when I am away from home, but I have a 15" laptop at home with a good quality screen. I definitely wouldn't want to be drafting a lot of documents on a netbook.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
