Hi,
Sorry if this is on the wrong board.
I have recently been told to find car insurance by my father. I do not drive,do not own a car and so have no clue about insurance but have manage to get quotes (via MSE tips) -fully comprehensive(well I think anyway). The cheapest I got was about £550 but without BREAKDWON COVER and my Father said breakdown cover is a must. I was wondering if I could buy the breakdown cover seperately through another firm and if so who and where would I have to look iywim. I hope my post makes sense to you.
I wait your replies/suggestions.
TIA

You can get breakdown cover from Auto Aid for £38 for the year which includes Home Start. However you pay up front and claim it back so you would need to check that this was acceptable.0

Yes, wacs. There is no requirement to get b/down cover with insurance. In fact, you don't need to get it at all if you don't want too.
Seeing as your father does want it, I'd suggest you look here for ways to get the best value:

You say you don't drive and you don't own a car. Can I ask what you were getting quotes for then? I am bit confused as usually a car is required for car insurance."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -

Autoaid is a pay-and -reclaim service. You carry a payment card (debit/credit card whatever) and pay the breakdown guy when he comes. Get an invoice, send it off (but keep a copy). You get reimbursed within two weeks
Disadvantage - always carrying means of payment.
Pros -it's dirt cheap but covers more than most others do e.g spouse, driving any car, towing after accident, accommodation, transport to destination I believe.
Been with for two years, used them once- it was fine just like everyone said it would be.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
