heating issues and now 'noisy' water.

Had heating issues since before christmas last yr.
I had spoken to 2 different plumbers on different occasions, described symptoms, both said its the 'motorised zone valve'

Bro inlaw to be, is a plumber, so he sent up the part, which i fitted yesterday, but its made no difference, still no heating.

We have hot water, the boiler fires ups when you hit the hot water function on the controls, but nothing happens when you press heating, before, we only had heating when the hot water was on,and by flickng the manual overide on the zone valve, we had hot radiators, but that completely packed up a couple of weeks ago.
I hoped a new zone valve would cure this.
Not being a plumbist i am stumped!
Bro in law lives 170miles away ... so getting him to pop round is a tad difficult, and at the moment cannot afford to get a plumber out.
Any ideas anyone?

Now having had to drain the water to do this, when the downstairs loo gets flushed, you can hear the water rushing thru the pipes to refill the cistern, and it really roars thru the pipes quite loudly,
Any ideas??

Is your room thermostat turned on?
  • No not a combi boiler.
And yes, the thermostat is turned to the max.

    Faulty thermostat would do it.

Switch the heating on & go up to the port valve & see if the pipe gets hot (not the one that goes into the cylinder).

Also make sure you can hear the pump

  • Unless you own a multi meter and understand how an 'S' plan system works, you will need to get someone competent out to diagnose the problem properly.

Unfortunately, they will probably expect to be paid for this.

Lots of things you can do to find out a cause before calling someone in.

If you have hands feeling the pipes either side of the port valve will tell you if its working when it switches from Heating to Hot Water.

If you have ears listening for the noise of a pump will tell you if its working or not.

As long as you keep in mind other controls switch these on then you can rule things in or out.
