Can anyone give me an idea about how much I should pay to get a slate repaired. Don't want to pay too much. thanks

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. A tile at the edge of the roof had come adrift after some strong winds. I got a local company to do it. It took them 20 minutes from arriving to leaving. They charged £124 - I wasn't happy.0

How easy is it to access the roof?
I had some replaced when I was having guttering work done, but the guys needed to use a zip-up tower as ladders were not sufficient so that can bump the cost up a bit.0 -
do it yourself0

I replaced a tile that was snapped in half on my roof.
it was easy enough to do from the inside by just pushing up on a few of the tiles around the damaged one and after pulling the broken bits out , just pushing the new one up and in place. All the surrounding tiles just rested back in place once I stopped pushing them up.
The tile is still OK after10 years .0 -
Seeing as slates are nailed I doubt the OP can push it out or even access it from underneath. As for price, I have no idea - most roofers in my experience are not interested in replacing a single slate and hence want to charge a premium for bothering them with it.0

They hold them in with lead strips so no need to nail them in.0

Yes you're right. It's not easy to get a contractor to come out to fix an odd tile or two.Seeing as slates are nailed I doubt the OP can push it out or even access it from underneath. As for price, I have no idea - most roofers in my experience are not interested in replacing a single slate and hence want to charge a premium for bothering them with it.0 -
Nigh on impossible I'd say, if you have roofing felt.but you still cant do it from the inside
I once owned a house that had a stone tiled roof that was in a poor state and the previous owner had had it tarred over. Not a good idea as the sun cracks the tar at the tile edges and then water gets in and appears on the inside at another spot, ie where it can find a route. But it had no roofing felt under the tiles so I could see the holes. I used to saturate cotton wool wads in tar and plug the holes. It seemed to be ok with that!0
