Parking ticket in hospital

Hi guys,
Im hoping someone can give me a bit of advice.
I am based at a hospital in Scotland where the car park is free for however long you are there.
However, I also have to travel to another hospital which has a 4 hr rule, which is bad for me as when I am there I need to spend more than 4 hrs at a time. I am not entitled to a parking permit as I am not a permanent member of staff.
Today after being told by a member of staff, I stupidly parked in the temp staff car park, stating I am a locum and was told to park here.
I now have a £20 parking ticket as it doesnt matter what I was told,, no parking permit was visible.
When I questionned what I should do as the operations I perform can take much longer than 4 hrs, I was told they do not cater for people like me so I need to take my chances.
I was wondering what power the company has for enforcing these tickets? I am aware than many staff members simple bin the tickets, receive a soliciters letter and bin that. For many it has been more than a year since they heard anything. I do not have the name of the company infront of me at the moment
Can the company legally go and chase you for the money? I am wondering if i should just pay it this time then in future say no to operating on people who need it as I will get fined for being there.

Whoever you see 'bin' the tickets are doing exactly the right thing.
Ignore everything they send you, keep on ignoring.
they have no power to fine you. Dont contact them because then they know they have got you and
the letters will go on forlonger.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
so when they post out the solicitor letter just ignore that too? Im just trying to make sure that Im not following people who have got it wrong:o
btw thanks for posting so quickly..:)0 -
The company "managing" the car park have suffered no loss, therefore you owe them nothing.
Just ignore.
Who issued the ticket by the way?0 -
Why are you working in the other hospital?
If your employer is sending you then they should pay T&S inc parking. If you are choosing to go & work extra shifts as a locum then the cost of parking should be considered when deciding if the money is worth the effort0 -
^^^I think the parking is free though.0

So they have no facilities for surgical staff to work at the hospital? This sounds like a bigger question for whoever is employing/engaging you when your contract comes around!0

It probably wont even be a solicitors letter it will be a 'solicitors';) letter, so yes ignore that too.
Only police, courts and councils can enforce fines.
So dont worry about it.
Interesting site if you have the time is PepiPoo, have a look at the parking bit.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Haha. Brilliant. Yeah you don't need to spell to cut people! Only joking. I don't face the ticket on me just now. I have left it in the car but I will be able to post in a few hrs.
There is a distinct issue with parking permits. Nurses who work up until 11pm are expected to get public transport home or walk to their cars that are outside the hospital grounds. Drs who work long shifts are told tough. Deal with it. It's not deal at all.0 -
Parking is a big issue for most hospitals. I think there are only two left in Scotland that charge for parking, Ninewells in Dundee and GRI.
(Having just checked I see that Ninewells charge disabled parkers too)0
