Getting to LHR T4 from Southampton for 6am flight?

Hello,
Needing some help trying to figure out a logistical travel nightmare. I've got a flight departing from Heathrow Terminal 4 at 6am, and will be travelling to get there from Southampton.
Now so far, the best option I have is a coach leaving from Southampton at half 2 in the morning and getting there at 4:25am. However this seems a little on the risky side to me, despite the fact I think we'll be checking in online and they will drop us outside the terminal. Date of flight is 6th July 2011.
Can anyone figure out another way for us to do this? Or calm my worries about the coach travel?
Thanks,
Elliot.

The check-in desks to drop your bags and security don't open until 5am, so the 04.25 arrival sounds perfect.

Could you travel the day before and stay in a Travelodge or similar? There is a Hoppa bus that runs to the terminals. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0

Me! I am online and I can confirm it. Otherwise you can check with the website of the airline you are flying with.
I would second the suggestion travelling up the previous night and stopping in a hotel. Takes some of the stress out of travelling up and you will get more sleep.0 -
A lot of airlines do a twilight check in (12am onwards) you could do this amd probably just stay in a hotel for the night:santa2:0

Personally I would not risk it, one serious problem on the M3 and you are b******d. Travel up the evening before, get a good nights sleep and feel a lot more refreshed when travelling.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

We just booked Travelodge at Heathrow for £23.50. Our flight is at midday 12.05 but it travel there would take us 3.5hrs from Devon. So rather the worry about accidents and delay on road, we invested £23.50 for peace of mind :-)Best wins ever:

At that time in the morning the M3 is empty and even it it wasn't the driver will have plenty of advance warning about any problems and know every single rat run there is on the way.
I also wouldn't be bothered with the expense of a hotel because you're going to be getting up shortly after you go to bed in order to make a 6am flight with the hassle of security to go through.
My suggestion would be a nap late afternoon, a few late drinks in the pub and then a nice picnic with a bottle of something nice for the coach journey.
Arrive at LHR and then just carry on drinking.
What a great way to travel.0 -
I would definately not recommend the coach that gets you there for 4:25am for a 6am flight, I work for a coach company and we always recommend people get there an hour before check-in opens (roughly 3 hours before your flight) this will allow any delays that may occur on your coach journey, my recommendation to you would be to travel the day before and book yourself into a hotel, it may be an early get up but the last thing you want is a breakdown on your coach when you only have 1 hour 30 minutes before your plane departs.
Ive dealt with so many complaints where people have only given themselves an hour or so before the plane is due to depart and tbh we dont compensate for it at all really because they haven't given themselves enough time to play with.

You could travel up via greyhound to victoria the night before, take the last tube around 11.45 and sleep in airport for a few hours, good if you are on a budget, I've done that for around £10 for two people when going on 7am flight to paris. Obviously if money is no object I would definately stay overnight in hotel close by.0
