The cost of death ?

Hello.

Ive started to think ahead to the day when the grim reaper knocks on my door and invites me for a little chat and says
'leave your coat, you won't need it where we are going' :A

I have no idea what its costs to be buried in a plot in the local cemetry or how much a cremation is. There are so many other things to consider. I am not religeous so don't want a church service so presume I can just be driven straight to the cem or crem at minimal expense. Then there is a headstone, how much are they for a standard size black one with a few words on ? What about buying or reserving a plot that you may not use for a few years, how's that done?

If I decide to be scattered then there will be no stone, so a saving there. Could I be scatterd in some woods that are private owned but with public footpaths running through? Is that allowed ?
If so, I would need to show someone/the funeral chaps, the exact spot before I pop off.
He will need a map to find the spot I want and it may be better if I show him and draw a map as we go.

If anyone has been through the whole thing recently and knows some costs I would be grateful. I would like to set aside some money in an account for the purpose.

I don't know for certain, but I think between £3-5k should cover most of it, might even be able to get away with it for less.

You can pay for your funeral up front and beat inflation. Cost of funerals are going up 10% each year. I worked for Coop bank and you can pay for a basic funeral for less than 3k today he last time I checked and everything is included - doctors fees, cremation fees, hearse etc the only thing they do not include is the wake as they don't know how many people will turn up. But once it's paid for no matter how much it costs it's paid up for you.

1 gram of me getting blasted into space seems steep for £1500 quid. No, not for me.

Fill out the paperwork to donate your body to your local medical school. If they accept your body it won't cost you/your nearest & dearest anything other than possibly the transport of the body from where you die to the school.
And you get to help future doctors learn/researchers find cures for disease

Small helium balloon with the ashes attached. A mate on the ground with a shotgun and the ability to estimate approx 100 feet up. You'll be well scattered for less than a £fiver?

More seriously, just over £4k for church service / cars / crem / catering for 60 / headstone / ashes inserted to an existing cemetery plot. Scaled down to around half of that if you want it simple.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

Try Googling 'Greenwood burial' and your county. There are an increasing number of these sites all over the country.

I buried my good lady in one last year and, at the same time, bought the next door plot for myself - we had had time to discuss it :-(

The main people you need to tell are your executor(s) though, of course, you could always do what I have done and buy the plot upfront.

Everyone who attended was very impressed by the rural location.
