Fresh whole sardines

I picked up some cheap whole (gutted) sardines today and realised I don't have a clue what to do with them!
I've had a search on here, but can't easily find anything.
So please, your best easiest recipe for me would be great.

Jamie did them the other day, much as I have. Don't worry about the exact flavourings (or the other recipes lol), just a big squeeze of lemon is good

Grill until just cooked, with a few herbs and some lemon juice. Make a tart side salad (tomato for example) and eat. Quite strong tasting, so you do not need a lot.
Any left over "pot". mash them up with flavourings and put in a pot. Cover with melted butter. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
That's all really great thanks. I used a couple of lemons I grew myself and grated the skins onto the sardines and squeezed the juice over them, cooked in the oven for a while they were lovely.
The rest of the family complained bitterly about the bones though. I think I'll try mackerel next time.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Hi puddy,
There are a couple of links I've used before that helped me with gutting sardines here and here
Normally I just grill them with lemon juice but there are more ideas on this thread:Fresh whole sardines
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.
