Vauxhall

Hi all, I got a letter last week about some bolts that may need tightening up on camshaft on my corsa or something? question is I am coming up to around 55,000 mile on the clock and been advised to get my cam (sp) belt changed. Would it be advisable to ask them to do it friday while I am at Vauxhall or do you think it would be cheaper to go to a smaller garage has previously I have found Vauxhall expensive? And what sort of price should I be looking at?

Thanks :D

    dealer will cost more
do you have a full vauxhall service history now?
  • thanks for your reply!
no i bought the car from a family member knowing that it didnt have it. I just got this letter about these bolts and thought it might be cheaper if they do it while they are underneath the bonnet. If its going to be more expensive anyway il hang on but not right sure at what mileage the belt should be changed?

I was quoted 'around' £300 from a VX dealer last week for a Vectra 1.9 diesel. Don't know about the Corsa but the Vectra is 100K miles for a change, should be shown in your cars service booklet.

recall work wont really change the price much I would think.
however i would get some quotes and then ask the dealer what they will charge
they may do a deal since they are working on that area anyway.
if you have quotes already to hand then you can judge how cheap/dear it is

Looks pretty serious fault, I'd get to the Vaux dealer and get the camshaft bolts recall done asap. It looks like this can lead to the camshaft snapping and writing off the engine.

Some Corsa engines have a chain, some have a belt. You may need to do some searching for your specific year/model/engine

Don't ignore this -- it's a VERY serious fault and is affecting many thousands of 1.2 engines mainly. There have been cases of the camshaft itself fracturing:

Note that there have been hundreds of posts on this issue on HJ -- take a look on Google.

if you car is having this recall then i would say no cambelt fitted as this fault only seems to happen on the chain driven engines.

what cc is your engine at a guess i would say 1.2 or 1.4 twinport?

just to add as vauxhall have admitted there is a fault and are recalling should it go between now and when booked in then it should be under warranty.

Ask them for a price, you can only say no.

I had a cambelt done by a Seat main dealer years ago, the car was fitted with a 110tdi VAG engine, and to be honest they where cheaper than the quote I got from a non main dealer. This was a few years ago, but sometimes it is worth checking before going elsewhere.
  • hi all thanks for your replies. the car is 1.2. its 05 reg which i think is very strange for them to recall considering its nearly 6 year old. anyway its booked in at 2pm friday, this is earliest i can get off work. think i will ring around a few places friday morning and have some sort of price in my head. and do some research of the car when im home from college tonight.
    Thanks again
