M&S instore ordering

Not sure if this is the right place to put this!

Yesterday I looked to order two coats at M&S online for store pick up. I was going to use the £10 off code. However the day for pick up was Thursday and I really wanted them before this. So I went instore and they did not have them so I ordered them at the customer services. When I ordered them the sales assistant mentioned that for some reason I was getting £10 off.
On returning home I had an e-mail about my order which I find/found very strange.
The only details I was asked was, if I had ordered anything before?
my post code, house number and to confirm my name.
I did not think for one minute they would then connect this to my internet account.
Does anyone else think this strange?
