Loot-Ad response

Morning all,
I placed an ad yesterday to sell some furniture and recieved a reply asking what was the minimum i would accept for the items.I replied to the prospective buyer and have just had this response -

Hey,

Thanks for your respond and am happy to hear that the item is still available. i can't come over to check out the item at your location bcos, am in USA right now for a medical treatment. I will pay you
the £50 and i will also give you £40 to keep the items for me till when my shipping agent will come for the item. for the item and and i have instruct one of my business assorciate to issue a cheque
payment to you.

i 'll be paying you with a cheque and to send it out i will need your full name and address where it will be sent to..and probably your phone number so i can call u....

PS....i will want you to consider it sold to me i want to buy it and am serious about it..okay..

Regards

Don't know what to make of this as surely no one would send me any money unless they had viewed the items first.

  • It's a well-known scam. The cheque will bounce, then you've lost the item and paid the shipping.
  • Scam, will most likely send you a cheque for more that the amount and get you to refund then the cheque will bounce. Just ignore the email and any similar ones you get in future
  • Just as i thought, alarm bells started ringing when he offered me more than the item was worth.

    Thanks

Also watch out for sellers who advertise using the personal phone numbers, l noticed there are alot of these such people in the dog/puupies sections of such publications. Cost the earth to call them.

I've noticed one thing these messages have in common. They talk about 'the item' instead of mentioning what you actually say, probably templates.
