help needed with electricity switch

Hi folks,
I purchased my first property just a few months ago and now that me a my wife are now living together - we're taking steps to become more financially efficient.

Unfortunately the electricity (no gas) in the property is supplied by Scottish Power via prepayment meter.

I was always under the impression these things ran away with cash. Our bills are averaging around £40-50 pcm but I'm unsure on how to do a comparison using utility switchers on this type of payment. Also wary that there may be a charge if I move to a dry-meter?

Looking for some helpful advice.

Thanks.

I think your best bet might be to firstly apply get a credit(i.e. normal) meter with Scottish Power on a Direct Debit Tariff.

This shouldn't be a problem provided there have been no problems with your account. Once you have this you can swop to a new supplier.

You may find difficulties moving to a new company and applying for a change to a credit meter at the same time. Companies tend to be wary of new customers and/or those on a pre-payment meter.

In most regions Scottish Power are fairly competetive on price so it would probably be best to stick with them at least until your meter has been changed.
