Scottish Power overcharge on final bill

I switched my supplier from Scottish Power to EDF in November and I had contacted my old supplier in November that I would be doing this and under the ofgem rules would like to reject their price increases.

They confirmed to me by email stating my unit rates would not increase in this time. However, after I got my final bill they have charged me at the higher new rates and did not freeze my prices. I finally got round to calling them and they have refunded me £19 for the overcharge for my final month.

Just to let other MSE’s know they should check their final bills to make sure they are charged correctly. This is very sneaky of them and the energy suppliers are making millions from unsuspecting customers.

In my experience suppliers rarely, if ever, keep the pre-increase prices. I don't think their computer system can handle it.

Always check your bill, and dispute any erroneous billing. If you withhold payment until such times as the dispute is addressed, it may speed them up a little.

Having said that, when I switched my electricity some time ago, SSE failed to bill at the old prices, I disputed it, and they said they would send a revised bill. Unfortunately it took them over 12 months to issue this revised bill, so I disputed it again and they had no choice but to wipe it entirely. :D
