Hi,
jings, soup, I live myself and make some kinda soup every week, lentil, split pea, green pea, broth, veg, my version of a minestrone, a pasta type soup, a chilli type soup, mind you it's only me that's eating it, but I enjoy it, oh, and jings, I never get my knickers in a twist.
I have soup every day, summer and winter.0 -

ok, im still putting it off, the veg is already quiet mushy from being in the slow cooker all day with the ham shank, im kinda thinking that it will have absorbed a lot of flavour though so will be worth using...0 -

If that's the case then I would add it in near the end and make sure it's heated through properly. But yes it will have taken on the flavour!
 I just thought... if you have the bones you can add them for more flavour... even if you have already mad stock with them... Brown the bones first and it makes it even nicerWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I buy Ham Hock for £1.50 and it's enough for 3 soups... 1 soup will feed us all at the weekend and lunch for me for a week (sometimes 2 weeks)... but the point it the meat is AMAZING!
I only seem to buy cheap cuts nowadays because they are all so wonderful and tasty when cooked right and far superiour to the expensive cuts of meat!We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. Yes... that's exactly right!
Ps. If you like the Slow Cooker... try a Pressure Cooker...! Pea and Ham Soup (with a whole Ham Hock as opposed to already cooked leftover meat) takes 45 minutes! We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I've never really encountered pressure cookers before, without wanting to sound a bit dim, what do they do, cook things quickly? What is the end result like?0 -

I am quite new to them... but basically they cook things in 1/3rd of the time. So if you have a peice of meat which needs 2 hours on the stove... it needs 40 minutes in the PC.
I steam rice in mine, make soups, stews, spag bol...!
I also cook beans in it (ie. kidney, chick peas etc etc) 500g bags and then seperate and freeze into 5 portions... for use in my cooking... saves a ton of money!
Hope that helps. We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240
